Volunteering

We welcome the interest of community members who wish to volunteer at the Camp Lejeune Fisher House.

We would be honored if individuals or organizations might be interested in coming in to cook meals or bake for our families. This may mean dropping off the food or coming into the house to prepare a meal and spend time with the families.  We are happy to discuss an arrangement that works best for you and your service group.

PREPARING MEALS

TYPES OF MEALS

Some possible suggestions for meals are casseroles, homemade soups, submarine sandwiches, chili, etc. Or your group or organization may want to cook with a theme in mind. Themes such as Mexican Night, Make Your Own Pizza Night, and Italian Night, amongst others, have been wildly successful at various Fisher Houses. Your menu does not need to meet any dietary restrictions. It should be balanced, though, with vegetables, bread and dessert. Many of the families already have their favorite beverages or may be very specific however if you would like to bring beverages, please feel free to do so.

You are more than welcomed to prepare the meal within the house or to bring the meal pre-prepared.

NUMBER OF FAMILIES

The Fisher House has 12 suites with an average of at least 2 people per room. Since the number of people change day-to-day, it is safe to assume that you will be serving at least 10 – 14 people. Because our families are staying with us to be close to their patient, they might not be at the House when you deliver and/or prepare your meal however there is nothing more comforting than a prepared meal that needs to simply be warmed up after a long day at the Hospital.

Setting Up, Serving, and Cleaning Up

When considering preparing a meal for the guests of the Camp Lejeune Fisher House, it is imperative to include enough time in your schedule to help set up, serve, and clean up. We have all the necessary pans, dishes, silverware, etc. You are welcome to bring paper plates or plastic ware. Our kitchen is equipped with two ranges, two microwaves, a sink, two dishwashers, two refrigerators and a freezer.

We prefer that your group not exceed 6 people. The smaller group will provide for better interaction with our families and allow enough space within the kitchen for everyone to visit comfortably.

Any meals that are dropped off or leftovers that are left for the families of the Camp Lejeune Fisher House must be left in sealable containers that are clearly marked with the contents and the date of preparation.

Parking

Upon arriving to the Camp Lejeune Fisher House, please park in the side parking lot. If you are simply dropping off food without the intent of staying, please feel free to pull in front of the front doors to drop off the meal.

VOLUNTEERING AT THE CAMP LEJEUNE FISHER HOUSE

Additionally, we would love to have you assist the staff with office work, share your skills and knowledge or whatever else that may fit! These volunteer opportunities may be regularly scheduled, one time, or special project volunteering. Regardless of the length of time or frequency of volunteering, your efforts are much appreciated by not only the families but also the staff of the Camp Lejeune Fisher House.

Camp Lejeune Fisher House is also an excellent place for students to earn service hours.
